How to find and save a campsite

  1. Search for a destination or campsite name, choose a state, or use Near me.
  2. Open Filters to choose a campsite type or reported fee. Unknown fees do not mean free camping.
  3. Open a campsite to see its coordinates, available source information, and directions.
  4. Choose Save stop to keep it in this browser on this device. Open Saved stops to return to it later.

What the map can tell you

KampTrail uses campsite records from Recreation.gov and OpenStreetMap contributors. City search uses GeoNames. Coverage is incomplete and varies by state. The app’s About the data panel shows the current catalogue count.

Imported records do not consistently include snapshot dates, and listings have not been field verified. Confirm current fees, camping permission, seasonal closures, reservations, and suitability for your vehicle with the operator. A location on public land does not by itself establish permission to camp.

Using KampTrail on the road

After an online visit, previously loaded listings may remain available offline. Map imagery and directions need internet. KampTrail does not provide offline navigation or cell coverage maps.

Saved stops belong to this browser on this device. Clearing browser data removes them. Embedded and full-page versions may keep separate saved stops depending on browser privacy settings. For regular use, open the full-page version and save stops there.
